Planning permission for 4-5 Arlington Street
The proposal for the redevelopment of the Grade II and Grade II* listed buildings situated across from the Ritz Hotel on Arlington Street has been granted planning. The two buildings currently used as offices will be converted to 11 residential apartments including the addition of a two storey penthouse.
Central to the scheme has been the desire to produce a design which is wholly contemporary in nature and yet sympathetic to the existing buildings below. Following pre-application discussions with the Westminster planners this was achieved by locating the extension to the rear of the development so as to not be visible from street views, and thereby allowing for a departure from the classical language of the existing. As a result the form of the penthouse volume has been informed by a need to avoid views from along Arlington Street and Piccadilly. The materials to the extension will be natural slate rainscreen panels with flush glazing and metal detailing. The project will progress with the team commencing the detailed tender package information in September.
