At the heart of Birmingham and set in a conservation area, the proposal for the site dictates the demolition of the existing 22 storey building and the erection of a dramatic new 35 storey tower.
This historic address presents the opportunity for a dynamic tall building, responsive to its context. The building is a series of faceted planes and articulated core elements, responding to function and direct context, coherently drawn together to form a slender, elegant tower.
The dramatic form of the building is accentuated by an extended light mast providing a unique signature on the skyline. The building’s base responds to the existing scale of Colmore Row with a grand colonnade delivering a new public space.
The building will achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and deliver 30% reduction in CO2 emissions beyond current regulations. It will also provide enhanced site biodiversity through the living green roof, reduction in resource consumption and cycling facilities.
