DESCRIPTION

Driscoll House located on New Kent Road, close to the Elephant & Castle, London, is set for a dramatic new addition in a bid to preserve it for the future. The building, built in 1913 and formerly the Ada Lewis Women’s Lodging House is listed Grade II for its special historic interest.

Hamiltons has developed a residential scheme with a glass-topped atrium within the existing courtyard ensuring that the fabric of the existing building is preserved and solves access issues by incorporating all vertical and horizontal circulation. The atrium is reached via a new tunnel link from the front courtyard space which boldly strikes through and into a new communal garden at the rear, connecting the landscaped spaces.

A brass clad ‘box’, housing ten unique apartments is designed to float between the two brickwork wings with a minimal glass junction.
