Plot A1, Shearway Business Park, Folkestone is a new HQ office building for the Home Office Immigration Agency. The project incorporates a number of sustainable initiatives including an Ammonia Chiller, Rainwater Harvesting & Recycling, Solar Water Heating and a Green Roof.
The Ammonia Chiller utilises ammonia as its heat energy medium and has a zero ODP and a GWP of less than 5. Ammonia chillers have higher performance values than their traditional chiller equivalent, increasing the energy efficiency of the units and hence reducing the amount of energy required to cool the building.
Harvested rainwater is stored within an underground water tank and submerged pump set located at the front of the building. The rainwater collected will be employed to serve the W.C’s within building. Solar panels were introduced into the building to assist the hot water requirements. These are mounted on the roof with pipework running back to storage vessels and pumping equipment located in the 1st Floor Plant Room
Additionally there is a sedum roof within the scheme which will improve the conservation of resources, bio-diversity and absorption of pollutants from the air. All these systems meet the Home Office’s Greening Operation Policies.
